What is it?
Rhinoplasy is most commonly used to reshape the
nose to improve overall facial appearance. It can also be used to
correct birth defects, deformities which result from injuries,
and to remove nasal obstruction.
How is it performed?
The extent of the procedure will depend very
much on the desired result, the physical features of the patient
and the surgeon’s judgement. Incisions are usually made inside
the nostrils, and the bone of the cartilage is reshaped and
trimmed. The nose may also be built up in some areas using
splints and nose packs. The operation
How long will it take for the physical
effects of the operation to disappear?
After the operation, swelling and bruising
around the eyes will quickly subside. Swelling of the nose will
subside more slowly. Most patients who undergo this procedure go
back to work within 2 to 3 weeks, but the final appearance of the
nose may take up to 3 to 4 months to be evident. Scarring is not
a problem, as all incisions are made on the inside of the nose
and along the creases of the nostrils so are not noticeable.
